Tropical Storm Nicholas, the 14th named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season, is expected to make landfall in southeastern Texas early Tuesday morning. In addition to Nicholas, another tropical wave (Invest 95L) has recently emerged off the coast of western Africa, and could become a tropical depression later this week. Late Tuesday night, a tropical wave over the northeastern Caribbean Sea developed into Tropical Storm Fred, the sixth named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. It looks much more like September than late June over the deep tropical Atlantic, with two tropical waves currently being monitored by the National Hurricane Center for development. Invest 95L, located east of the Lesser Antilles, has not become much better organized, and its development chances appear to be decreasing.
