Invest 91L could develop over the Bay of Campeche late this weekend

A broad area of low pressure, Invest 91L, has been designated over the southwestern Yucatan Peninsula. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) currently gives 91L a 30 percent chance of development, both within 48 hours and seven days.

NHC Tropical Weather Outlook for June 27, 2025, 8:00 p.m. EDT.

91L is expected to emerge over the Bay of Campeche tomorrow, where additional development is possible. The environment for 91L is only marginally conducive for development. Although sea surface temperatures are warm enough, upper level winds are expected to be strong except over the extreme southern Bay of Campeche. Global model support for 91L is very limited, and most likely the low pressure area will not consolidate enough to be classified as a tropical cyclone. 91L should move inland into central Mexico by late Monday.
